Mail Pro support
One person reads this inbox, and it's me. Tell me what happened and I'll get back to you.
Include your iPhone model, your iOS version and the app version, and say which account provider you're on. I usually reply within two or three days. Please don't paste the contents of a private email into a support message — describe what happened instead.
Getting started
How do I connect my mailbox?
Open the side menu, tap Add Google Account, and sign in through Google's own sheet. Mail Pro never sees your password. Your inbox loads within a few seconds.
Where do I get a Gemini API key, and why do I need one?
Get one free at aistudio.google.com/apikey, then paste it into the side menu under Settings → Gemini API Key.
Mail Pro asks you to bring your own key so that your mail is processed under your own Google Cloud project and your own quota, rather than passing through an account of mine. It also means there's no AI subscription to pay me. Turn on billing on that key: on the free tier Google may use submitted content to improve its products, which is not what you want for your email.
The inbox, search, folders, compose, send and the widgets all work with no key at all — the key only switches on the AI features.
Why does it ask for so much access to my Gmail?
Because it's a mail client: it has to read your mail to show it, change it to archive or mark it read, and send it when you tap send. The privacy policy lists every permission and the exact feature it powers. Mail Pro cannot touch anything else in your Google account — not Drive, not Photos, not your contacts.
Google showed me a warning about an unverified app.
Mail Pro is going through Google's verification process for apps that access Gmail. Until that completes, Google shows this screen to accounts that aren't on the tester list. If you're a beta tester and you hit it, mail me and I'll add your address.
Things that go wrong
The AI agent says it couldn't analyse my inbox.
Almost always the key: either it's missing, it's been revoked, or the project it belongs to has no billing and has hit the free quota. Re-paste the key in Settings and check it at aistudio.google.com. If the key is fine and it still fails, tell me roughly how many unread messages you have — very large inboxes are the other suspect.
An account shows as disconnected.
The OAuth token expired or was revoked — usually because the app's access was removed from the Google account, or because a beta build's tokens lapsed. Remove the account in the side menu and add it again.
The widget is stale.
iOS decides when widgets refresh and throttles them on Low Power Mode. Open the app once and it will catch up. If it's stuck for more than a day, tell me.
New mail notifications are late or missing.
Mail Pro checks in the background, and iOS decides how often that's allowed based on how you use the app. Check that Background App Refresh and Notifications are both enabled for Mail Pro in iOS Settings.
A reply was drafted but never sent.
By design: nothing is sent until you tap send. If you did tap send and it hasn't arrived, check the outbox — actions taken without a connection are queued and sent when you're back online.
Disconnecting and deleting
How do I remove an account and everything with it?
Side menu → the account → remove. That revokes the token with Google and deletes that mailbox's cached mail, drafts and AI cache from your device. You can also revoke access from your Google account at any time, with or without the app installed. Deleting the app removes everything it stored, including its Keychain items.
Reporting a privacy or security problem
If you've found something that exposes user data, mail me with “SECURITY” in the subject and I'll prioritise it. Please give me a reasonable window to fix it before making it public.
